Marathon Infinity is the third installment of the popular saga created by Bungie, the developers of the Halo and Destiny franchises. This game was originally released for Mac in 1999, and for Windows five years later. Marathon Infinity continues the story of the previous two games, but adds some plot twists by means of a time paradox.
Bungie released the source code for Marathon Infinity in 1999, which lead to the development of Aleph One, an open-source game engine able to run the Marathon Trilogy on modern Mac, Windows, or Linux machines. This version uses the same game engine, which means you can play in high resolution and in widescreen format, as well as customize both the graphics and controls.
Marathon Infinity's campaign is even longer than that of the second game, although the places and enemies are very similar. Once again, this game features a new weapon: a small machine gun. While it has a longer and more extensive campaign, it still presents the storyline through terminals that you'll find as you advance through the game. Not only that, but you'll sometimes play in different moments in space and time.
Marathon Infinity is an outstanding FPS that looks great, thanks to the Aleph One game engine. Just like the other two installments in the saga, the online mode is still playable, although you'll need to find some other users to play with.
